Wilful Ignorance Should be a Crime

There is a purposeful war on logic and intellect perpetuated by willful ignorance. It is defined as the practice or act of intentional and blatant avoidance, disregard or disagreement with facts, empirical evidence and well-founded arguments.

Ignorance is a generation taught selective history yet the ignored chapters are shaping our world today. You may feel Japan and China’s various feuds are trivial but study the Nanjing Massacre and ingest the interpretations of both sides to appreciate & absorb the tensions. Only 25 years ago, Rwanda was burning, and Apartheid had a stranglehold on South Africa. The lessons-learned from the systemic ethnic cleansing and legalized racism would benefit all who studied it, but we refuse to acknowledge the genocide in Rakhine State and the continued mockery of the term “democracy” in Israel.

Xenophobia is prevalent as people are afraid of what they do not understand yet validate intolerance with liberalism. Stereotypes are perpetuated in society that Sikhs are attacked while anti–Semitism is widespread. Cultural diversity is a natural resource we need to exploit to help drown hateful, myopic political ideologies that are re-surfacing across the globe.

Open a book and absorb the diversity of the Asian Sub-Continent, the riches of the 54 assorted African nations and the intellectual history of the Middle East. You are not entitled to an opinion but an informed one as any fool can be conditioned by a subjective media. Racism, bigotry and chauvinism are diseases caused by ignorance but cured by intellect, exposure to cultures, learning from others and listening more than you hear.

Knowledge is an airborne infection against the health of ignorance; those in the know, please be unapologetically contagious.
