Embracing Resiliency in a Volatile Era
In the past 15 years, the world has had a global financial crisis, an unprecedent spikes in commodity prices, sustained inflation, heightened global political polarisation, multiple coups, technology disruptions, rapid impacts of climate change, a global pandemic and regional wars. These & more have had direct impacts to individuals’ lives and livelihoods.
The world is more abrupt than ever. Disruption is more frequent than ever. The impact to each of us, is more potent than ever; and in all likelihood, this trend will continue.
We all require to develop our resilience and more.
Research has shown the need to develop a 4-Quotient approach. We all have encountered IQ and EQ, but 2 others have become vital in an increasingly turbulent macro and micro-environment.
1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
IQ is a measure of an individual’s cognitive abilities, including logical reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
IQ is not just about doing well in school or at work, but rather the practical application of a high IQ is ones ability to think critically and solve complex problems.
2. Emotional Quotient (EQ)
EQ is a measure of an individual’s emotional intelligence, which includes their ability to manage their own emotions and understand the emotions of others.
People with high EQ are often seen as empathetic, compassionate, and good communicators.

3. Social Quotient (SQ)
SQ is a measure of an individual’s social intelligence, including their ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with others.
Developing SQ is important for success in a wide range of settings, from the workplace to personal relationships to your own mental health.
4. Adversity Quotient (AQ)
AQ is a measure of an individual’s ability to persevere through difficult situations and adapt to change.
People with high AQ are often seen as resilient, determined, and able to overcome obstacles.
How each one of us increases our IQ, EQ, SQ and AQ varies wildly – Prayers, Courses & Books, Family, Friends, Meditation, Mentorship, Sports … a combination of some or all and more.
However, you go about it, consciously develop your whole-self; learn, attend to your mind, soul & body, care for others’ and build thick-skin.
The world is opportunity-filled or soul-crushing … depending on your level of preparation.
